The Part of You That Watches

There is a part of you that watches.

It watches your thoughts appear.

It notices your emotions rise.

It remembers what happened yesterday and wonders what tomorrow might bring.

But it is not exactly the thought.

And it is not exactly the emotion.

It simply notices.

You can be angry and know that you are angry.

You can be afraid and recognize your fear.

You can question a thought instead of immediately believing it.

Somewhere within you, there is an awareness capable of witnessing what happens inside.

And perhaps that is one of the strangest mysteries of being human.

Who is the one watching?

Maybe it is simply consciousness.

Maybe it is an expression of the brain.

Or perhaps, as spiritual traditions have long wondered, there is something deeper within us—the soul experiencing this temporary human existence.

We don't have to pretend we already know the answer.

Sometimes the question itself is enough to change the way we see ourselves.

Because if you can watch your thoughts…

perhaps you are more than the thoughts that pass through you.

Reflection Questions

  • What happens when you observe a thought instead of immediately following it?

  • Who are you when you are simply watching your inner world?

  • Could your awareness be pointing toward something deeper within you?

Practice

Sit quietly for a few minutes.

Let your thoughts come.

Don't chase them.

Don't fight them.

Simply notice:

“I am aware of this.”

Then return to stillness.

Closing Thought

There is a voice inside you.
But perhaps there is also something deeper that can hear it.
