A Feeling You Cannot Explain
Sometimes, a moment touches you in a way you cannot explain.
You enter a place you have never visited, yet something about it feels familiar. You meet someone for the first time, but their presence stirs something deep within you. A melody plays, and suddenly you feel a strange longing for something you cannot name.
For a moment, it feels as though your heart recognizes something your mind cannot remember.
You search for an explanation. Perhaps it is a forgotten memory, an association you have not noticed, or simply the mysterious way the mind connects experiences. And sometimes, you find no clear answer.
But what if you allowed yourself to sit with the question?
Could there be dimensions of your inner life you have not yet understood? Could the mystery of the soul be greater than the memories you consciously carry?
Some spiritual traditions explore the possibility of spiritual memory, or even a continuity of the soul beyond a single lifetime. These remain spiritual interpretations, not proven explanations for such feelings. Yet they invite us to consider how much we still have to learn about ourselves and the nature of existence.
In Purism, the unknown is not something we must immediately explain or fear. It can be an invitation to become more attentive, more humble, and more conscious of the mystery surrounding our lives.
Perhaps the feeling is simply a feeling. Perhaps its meaning is different from what you imagine.
You do not have to turn it into proof.
You can let it remind you that understanding yourself is a journey—and that not every meaningful question needs an immediate answer.
Reflection Questions
Have you ever felt an unexpected familiarity you could not explain?
Did the experience change the way you saw yourself or the world?
Can you remain curious about a mystery without needing to solve it?
Practice
The next time an unexplained feeling arises, pause before interpreting it. Notice what you feel, what thoughts appear, and what the moment brings to your awareness. Write it down if you wish, allowing yourself to explore without forcing a conclusion.
Closing Thought
Perhaps not every feeling carries a hidden message. But every moment of wonder can remind us how much of existence remains beyond our understanding.
